Heart of Pitsea has been working on a crime awareness project A.C.T.I.O.N. (Against Crime Together In Our Neighbourhood).
On our website you will find a dedicated web page for the A.C.T.I.O.N. project, where you can download information and safety flyers, listen to podcasts with representatives from local and regional organisations including the Illegal Money Lending Team and Neighbourhood Watch and view some new films we have commissioned around knife crime, personal safety and prison life. The A.C.T.I.O.N. webpage has links to local and national organisations for help and support too. Just click onto the A.C.T.I.O.N. tab to take a look.
We recently held a community crime-awareness and prevention event – ‘Take A.C.T.I.O.N’ – at The Place on Northlands Pavement, Pitsea. A range of organisations presented their services and we showed our 3 newly created crime awareness short films. The Illegal Money Lending team very kindly loaned us their Loan Shark for the day, which was proudly (and very warmly!) worn by our youth forum members, Ethan and Oli, who went around the market area drumming up interest in our event.
We handed out loads of free giveaways to the community including personal alarms, window alarms, bike chains and other security features and there were free refreshments for all throughout the afternoon. Thank you to everyone who came along!
During the Easter school holidays, we commissioned Youth Unity, an organisation that provides help and support for vulnerable young people, to bring their music bus into Pitsea for young people to go along and use the mixing decks to make some music, engage with other young people, make new friends, and have discussions around personal safety. The group also made a podcast, putting forward their views around a range of topics including, how safe they feel in their community, difficulties get back to normal after COVID and much more. Youth Unity will also be doing some transition workshops in Northlands and Maple Grove Primary Schools with year 6’s.
We have been doing regular pop-ups around the Northlands Pavement and Chalvedon shops areas, chatting to local residents, giving away safety information, personal alarms and Faraday pouches. If you see us out and about, please do come and say hello!
We are currently running a crime survey to find out issues and problems within our local community. You have the chance to win crime prevention equipment including a home security system, solar security lights, a steering wheel lock or a bike lock.
