New Nature Zone for the Legacy Park

Basildon Council are creating a new wildlife friendly Nature Zone in the wooded area on the Legacy Park behind Northlands Primary School and Winifred Road.

The eco-plans within the project are aimed to improve the natural habitat and to encourage insects and wildlife to make it their home.

Plans include:

  • A new pond and wetland area
  • A stumpery log pile for insects
  • A hibernaculum for frogs, toads and reptiles to snooze in during their hibernation period
  • New benches and signage
  • Wildflower areas

The parks team will also be carrying out:

  • Coppicing (cutting back/tidying up) the existing trees and planting new trees
  • Clearing the brambles and creating hedgerows

The Nature Zone project will be getting under way very soon, with everything due to be finished by early Autumn.

It will add yet another dimension to the park, which already includes the children’s play area and outdoor gym equipment (which was funded by Heart of Pitsea and installed by Basildon Council).
